The production process was different this year as we learned about how to prepare for a music video and the filming was different to what we did in our AS year for our thriller opening. This year we had to film base tracks, which means that the whole song has to be filmed in one shot, even if we forget some of the lyrics or make small mistakes, as all of it will not be used in the final video. This makes the video easier to edit and organise.
We filmed around six or seven base tracks at different locations, and they were either individual shots or the whole group together. This will allow us to have varying shots in our video, and we also filmed a lot of cutaways, which we will add along the base tracks to add even more variety.
In terms of using the equipment, we learned how to use a fig-rig instead of a tripod. In a music video, the camera is rarely static, which is what a tripod would be used for. However, holding the camera directly would create too much movement, which is why a fig-rig is very useful, helping us move the camera smoothly and we really saw how interesting shots can look when the fig-rig is properly used.
We made sure to get as many close-ups as we could, as it was pointed out to us at the beginning of our project that close-ups of performers are essential to music videos.
