Examining previous ancillary work.

I have done a bit of research into the ancillary work of some artists and have decided to analyse some previous student work. Below is what I have concluded about each one.

NATHAN MILLER

STRENGTHS OF THE DIGIPAK:

  • Good colour scheme
  • The font goes with the electro-pop genre
  • The whole thing is clear and easy to see and read
  • The picture is eye-catching. It draws attention to itself.
WEAKNESSES OF THE DIGIPAK:
  • Back of the outside strip is a little odd- different colours to everything else.
  • Spelling mistakes
  • Tiny CD

INDIYAH

  • Barcode and copyright text is too big
  • Thank you is a bit long, although it might go with the genre the consumer might not be interested
  • Image is cut on CD cover

STRENGTHS:
  • Consistent colour scheme
  • CD cover is on the poster
  • Consistent font
  • Says where you can buy it from
  • Clear images.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Rated by a magazine unlikely to give them a score
  • No tour information
  • Only one place you can buy it from.

From this research, one thing that is clear is that you must have a consistent colour scheme across both the digipak and the advertisement, so that your artist is recognisable. In creating these products you are in a way creating the artist, as you are giving them a brand.
